Department Description:

The Religious Education Department at St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic High School provides academic activities that seek to evangelize and catechize students. The Department complements the various faith-related activities (e.g., chaplaincy services, community outreach, peer ministry) that take place within the instructional setting of the school.   The Religious Education courses are organized into five strands: Sacred Scripture, Profession of Faith, Christian Moral Development, Prayer/Sacramental Life and Family Life Education.

Students enrolled in Religious Education courses will:

- explore the truth, nurture the attitudes and develop the skills necessary to grow as young Catholics.

- appreciate the task of becoming life-long learners in relation to their faith.

- explore the process of ethical and moral formation based on the centrality of God, the fundamental dignity of the human person and the existence of absolute ethical norms.

- receive the knowledge of religious language, concepts, ideas, attitudes, and skills that contribute to both religious learning and faith formation.

- have opportunities for discussion, research, inquiry, and exploration of religious experiences, expression, and diversity.

- understand the various functions of our Church as: Advocate, Institution, Teacher, Community, Servant and Transformer.

- explore religious knowledge and attitudes centered on the person of Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord.

- appreciate Scripture as God’s living word, as a guide for seeking truth and making moral decisions, and as a spiritual source of strength and prayer.

-acknowledge that the love of God for all people as manifested in Scripture demands a commitment to justice and moral living.

- understand and appreciate the importance of the sacramental life of the Church, particularly the Eucharist.

- be taught, assessed and evaluated using a variety of means and strategies.
