Department Description:

The Department of Modern Languages at St. Theresa of Lisieux Catholic High School prepares students to perform effectively in the challenging world that they will face, on completion of the four-year language program, by providing them with the skills needed to communicate in a second language.

Students enrolled in the French or Italian language program will:

- gain an appreciation for the French and Italian cultures and values through language and, as a result, become more tolerant and respectful of other cultures;

- strengthen their first-language skills and ability to communicate in a second or third language;

- become more reflective, critical and creative thinkers;

- develop self-confidence and autonomy through the completion of individual tasks and a sense of responsibility and cooperation through teamwork, both of which will serve them well in their future endeavors and chosen careers;

- acquire the knowledge necessary in preparation for future studies at the post-secondary level and be able to participate effectively in the workplace and global community.
