Department Description:

The Arts Department: Experiences in the arts play a valuable role in the education of all students. The arts nourish the imagination and develop a sense of beauty, while providing unique ways for students to gain insights into the world around them.

Students enrolled in Arts Department courses will:

- use complex symbols to understand aspects of life in different ways

- gain insights into the human condition through exposure to works of art.

- identify common values, both aesthetic and human, in various works of art and thereby increasing their understanding of others and learn that the arts can have a civilizing influence on society

- produce their own works to communicate their insights while developing artistic skills and aesthetic judgement

- students experience a sense of wonder and joy which can motivate them to participate more fully in cultural life and in other educational opportunities

- students develop their ability to reason and think critically and creatively, develop communication and collaborative skills and use different forms of technology

- deepen their appreciation of diverse perspectives and flexibility students learn to approach issues in new ways to teach, persuade, to entertain and to make designs with aesthetic considerations.

- develop their ability to listen, observe and become more self-aware and self-confident
- be encouraged to take risks, solve problems in creative ways and be resourceful

- learn about artistic principles and elements that are common to all the arts. All the arts reflect historical periods and cultural values.
