STUDENT COUNCIL
Mission Statement:
The student council works to represent the voice of every student in decisions affecting their education, safety, and social community. We act as a communication bridge between students and the administration and ensure that student opinions and concerns are heard and responded to. Members act as ambassadors by promoting responsibility, equality, inclusion, and initiative. The Student Council presents several activities and events throughout the year that enable students to enjoy their youth and enhance their high school experience.
Main Events:
TERRY FOX RUN- All councils of student government collaborate in organizing the Terry Fox Run at STL. The Student Council is in charge of the incentives for this event.
SUGGESTION BOX WEEK - As a communication bridge, Student Council provides the opportunity for students to have their voice heard. Any ideas, suggestions or comments they have regarding anything going on at STL, can be put in this Box. For one week, the Suggestion Box is placed outside the main office; at any other time, it can be found in Guidance.
SEMI FORMAL-This is Student Council’s major event in the year. Student Council organizes a semi-formal dinner/dance at a banquet hall for all grade eleven students to attend. This event usually takes place in November.
PANCAKE TUESDAY- To celebrate Shrove Tuesday, Student Council has made it an STL tradition to provide students with a free pancake breakfast in the cafeteria.
SPRING FLING- Every year, Student Council organizes many activities for Spring Fling. Events from past years include Face Painting, Chubby Bunny, Pudding Pudding, and free Kool-Aid.
SEASONAL EVENTS- Throughout the school year, Student Council celebrates many special events and holidays. Events that have been run in previous years to bring joy to these seasons include the Halloween Pumpkin Carving Contest, Take a Picture with Santa, and Give Your Heart Away for Valentine’s Day.
